Healing Suits

Naturally dyed cotton jersey, dried corn and lavender

Healing Suits activate, regulate, and soothe the physical body to provide mental healing through interactions with nature and craft. The naturally dyed garments are intentionally created to soothe the wearer through memory-based colors. Dried corn and lavender are in patches or pockets sewn into the close-to-body garments in order to act as hot/cold pads during anxious states: corn aids in retaining heat or cold while lavender is used for aroma therapy. The garment construction is designed to compress and promote movement within seaming, textures, and its closures according to the body’s physiological and biological  Inspired by her own history with fashion and mental health questions, Anna Roth combines craft elements in everyday fashion objects to envisage a more regenerative relationship with wearer and garment.

Windshade

Metal straws, plastic tubing, naturally dyed (pomegranate rind) cotton, yarn, buttons. 8/8/15”

Drawing from her memories of wind chimes in her aunt’s garden, Anna Roth created this wind chime to reimagine an up-cycled version of beloved objects. Made specifically for Riveting Roots, the process similar to Roth’s lampshade technique, creating a cover for the chimes themselves. Adding sound to the garden, Windshade opens the gallery viewer’s senses, giving importance to imagination and whimsy in tackling larger themes of climate change and activism.
