Mi Baile (my dance) refers to Abi Chavez’s fútbol practice, where the movement of body is not just sport but a medium of remembrance and celebration. Folklórico, a dance dedicated to Chavez’s ancestors and Mexican-Indigenous roots, explores movement, rhythm, and expression through corporeal movements. Similarly, Chavez’s practice of soccer serves as an embodiment of cultural memory and resilience, becoming her own baile. A celebration of heritage, identity, and stories. Mi Baile honors indigenous knowledge systems of movement and joy by giving credence and meaning to its modern-day interpretations.
